Finding the right CBD oil dosage for your horse can be tricky. Let us get one thing clear though–CBD dosage for your horse is NOT based on weight. Yea, we said it! In fact, CBD dosing for any animals (and people) is not based on weight. Let’s get into it.
Think of it this way:
Your horse could need as much as a 10 pound dog or the 10 pound dog could need more than your horse. It is like alcohol, some people can have six beers and be fine, some can only have one–ever individual is different.
Where to start:
A good starting CBD oil dose for your horse is at least 50 mg, but it never hurts to give more. If you’re using Mikko’s Choice products start with either half to a full dropper of our CBD oil or one or two scoops of the CBD pellets. A half dropper is about 40 mg and a full dropper is 83 mg. One scoop of pellets is about 50 mg so two is 100 mg. We recommend starting with the higher dose options to be sure your horse gets a solid dose. This helps load up their endocannabinoid receptors to reach maximum benefits. Stay at this dose for at least 1-2 weeks and see how they do. You will probably notice a change pretty quickly! From there you can increase or decrease the dose as needed.
Things to keep in mind:
- CBD oil dosage for your horse can change over time and situationally
- If your horse is extra anxious or arthritic you can double their dose and then go back to their normal dose if they seem better
- You can give CBD to your horse situationally if they are anxious–for example when trailering, with the farrier or the vet etc
- If your horse is injured you can double or triple your horses CBD dose while they are injured and then return to their maintenance dose
Big Takeaways:
- Doing is NOT based on weight–for any animal!
- Dosing needs can change overtime
- Dosing needs can change situationally
- Horses can use our tincture or pellets
