CBD in itself is a daunting subject these days. There are so many products for people and pets. It is hard to know which product is the right one, especially for your horse! So, we broke it down for you! You better believe Mikko’s Choice adheres to everything below.
Criteria when choosing a product:
- Make sure it is organically grown in the USA–you won’t see any that are USDA Organic certified just yet, but someday!
- Be sure no pesticides, heavy metals or solvents were using during the growing and manufacturing process
- Be sure the company makes their lab results avaliable to you and if they don’t say anything about lab testing go somewhere else–Mikko’s Choice shares all results here
- A vertically integrated product is the best choice–this means the plant was grown, harvested and manufactured all by the same company
- An ideal product is one you can adapt the dose so as to fit your horses individual needs
What might CBD help my horse with?
- Stress, worry, concern, uneasiness
- Swelling
- Some chronic and acute lameness
- Sore muscles
- Overall health
CBD Oil Vs. CBD Pellets
Mikko’s Choice offers an CBD tincture and CBD pellets for horses. Both are great options for your horse. It really just comes down to how you plan to administer the CBD to your horse.
The tincture is great to add to a specific treat and feed that to your horse. We don’t recommend adding it to a bowl of grain because the oil might just end up on the side of the tub.
The pellets are great to give by hand or add to a bowl of grain. Just as in other horse feeds, your horse is used to eating pellets–which is why we created them! They are super easy to give.
What is the proper dose of CBD for a horse?
This is a tricky question because it depends! The most important thing to remember is this: every horse is an individual and every individual will respond differently.
A comparison you might be familiar with is alcohol. Some people can drink a whole six pack of beer and still function, some can only have a single beer. It really just depends. The same logic applies here.
It is best to start a horse on the recommended dose. When using Mikko’s Choice that dose is 2 scoops of the pellets or one dropper of the tincture once a day, this equates to 100mg of CBD. From there you can asses how your horse does week to week. After a few weeks you may need to increase or decrease the dose as well as the frequency. Again, it really just depends! If you have questions regarding the use of Mikko’s Choice in your horse you can check out the FAQ page or send us an email to info@mikkoschoice.com for personalized help.
Will my horse get high?
Any CBD product derived from hemp legally needs to have a THC content of 0.03% or less. An ideal horse product is one with 0.0% THC. Realistically THC at 0.03% is not going to produce a high, but we like to be safe! This is why Mikko’s Choice is always tested to ensure a 0.0% THC content. So no, your horse will not get high after eating Mikko’s Choice pellets.
