What is a hot spot?
A hot spot is known as pyotraumatic dermatitis or acute moist dermatitis. They are red, puffy and swollen skin lesions that appear quickly, ooze, and may contain pus. Hot spots can be found anywhere on a dog’s body, but the most common sites are the head, legs, and hips. They are created when a dog doesn’t leave a particularly irritated “spot” on their body alone. They appear due to excessive licking or itching and can be more prevalent during allergy season, but can occur anytime.
Can CBD help?
We are often asked “Can CBD help hot spots?” Yes, it might! CBD may help reduce the swelling associated with the hot spot–thus providing relief to your pet. CBD won’t fix the underlying reason the hot spot was created in the first place, such as allergies. However, it may certainly help your animal feel better. It is best to give orally to treat from the inside out. If you apply our All Animals Tincture topically the oil may drip off or be rubbed off. We recommend giving our CBD tincture orally as well as keeping the hot spot dry and perhaps putting a cone, donut or clothing on your dog so they can leave the hot spot alone. As always, consult with your vet for the best treatment plan.
